This 1936 work is an epistolary novel, or a dossier novel, one in which the narrative is in the form of letters or articles. It's a literary style that was big in 1936 when Dennis Wheatley and J.G. Links published a few. And the book has its charms with all of the "action" being firmly dated and testified to. It all involves a gang of thieves who operate by intoxicating their victims. How do they do it? Why are all of these high-class citizens turning up stoned out of their skulls -- and bereft of their jewelry? It's not a Bobby Owen mystery but E.R. Punshon is on the top of his form with this engaging thriller. Gavin O'Keefe introduces the book and provides the cover art. Fender Tucker proofread and enjoyed the book immensely.
