Ezra Jenkins is in a pickle! He’s got to find his brother—who goes by the monicker of X-Y-Z, or just X-Y, or maybe even just plain X—because his brother is the only person who can keep Herman Hieronymus, the Sauerkraut King of Chicago, from sending him to prison for forgery. So, with the aid of a taxi-cab driver and a perfect Dresden doll of a shopgirl, Ezra takes off on trip to the hinterlands of Chicago, armed only with a glass revolver and the knowledge that he is innocent of the crime for which Hieronymus wants to see him fry.
